Beauty in a “Rotten” Acorn

Beauty in a “Rotten” Acorn

Earlier today me and the kiddos were outside picking up acorns for papaw, he likes to feed them to his squirrels. Anyway, while I was sitting on the ground my mind zoned out and I started applying the different acorns I found to different parts of life. Sounds crazy but I believe if you just look then you can see God in anything throughout your day no matter how big or small.

The first thought that went though my mind was when I picked up the acorn in the bottom two photos. I was tying to only pick the prettiest ones. This acorn looked perfect and polished until I picked it up, then I seen that the other half was missing and the inside was moldy. Some of us (myself included) get so caught up in trying to look the part that we forget to take care of what’s on the inside. Sure our outside needs attention but sitting pretty on a pew isn’t going to get us to heaven if our hearts are dark and cold (perfect mold conditions.)

My second little thought was the picture at the top right, I pictured this acorn as having burdens or baggage that it couldn’t quite shake right now. We all know that the cupule of the acorn will eventually come off and the little acorn will be free, but sometimes the smallest of things can seem so big to us at the time. I believe God wants us to fully rely on him so sometimes he pushes us to a point where our only option is to give everything to him. He wants all our burdens and baggage so that he can make something beautiful out of them, which brings me to my third thought.

My third thought is that ugly little acorn at the top left. It looked rotten and was half buried in the dirt but when I looked closer I noticed it was sprouting. The ugliest little acorn I seen out there today was the very one who is on its way to becoming a big & beautiful oak tree. Sometimes we feel so beaten up and useless like we could never be used of God when in reality we are only steps away from becoming something great!

So no matter what you’re going through, if you have neglected your heart here lately, feel your burden is just too big, or if you feel useless and unwanted, hang in there at any cost. His reward is greater than anything we could ever gain by giving up. In due time you will be exalted.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Cast all your cares upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:6-7

I don’t know about y’all but I need all the help I can get making it through this life. We are all just a bunch of nuts trying to get to heaven (middle right picture) so why not learn to lean on God and let him help us out along the way.

This is exactly what I needed! The feeling of being left out and feeling unwanted has been a big struggle for me! Thank God for beautiful souls like yours!
