Dimming My Headlights First

Dimming My Headlights First

This will probably seem silly to most but it'll make sense at the end, or at least it does in my head.
The other night while I was driving home from Turkey Creek I realized I will get plum mad if I have to dim my headlights first. I always try to hold out and see if the oncoming car will go first. If they don't dim their headlights first then it usually turns into a game of who can hold out the longest & I'll almost go blind trying to see the road when we pass each other. I refuse to cave in first.! Guess you could call it pride, but in reality what is there to be prideful of? "Yay, I almost hit a ditch because I couldn't see, but you didn't see me hit that headlight switch first did ya?" Sounds stupid huh?
There are other times when I'm riding with my headlights on dim and the oncoming car has theirs on bright, or so I think.... I'm quick to flash my brights and let them know they need to flip their switch. There have been numerous times that I'm blasted with even brighter lights after doing that. Turns out what I thought were oncoming bright lights was in reality that cars dim lights. Then I get even more aggravated because I was wrong and because they blinded me back.
Granted, I never have a clue who's driving the passing car, where they are coming from, or where they are going; but I find myself sitting there ticked off for at least a good five minutes at them & the whole situation. Not sure if anyone else does that or if I'm all alone in the boat.?
Well, the other night, after I had gotten blinded twice on the same road I realized it isn't normal for someone to get that agitated over bright headlights. And yes, I turned to the Bible looking for something about pride or being humble.
Proverbs 29:23 - A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Ouch!!
So as I was driving again last night I decided to take a big gulp and dim my lights as soon as I saw an oncoming car in the distance. In response to me dimming mine first almost every car dimmed there's immediately after. I even caught myself smiling and giving them a nod as they passed by me even though they couldn't see me.
Like I said it will probably seem silly to most, but it made my car ride home much more enjoyable last night so I figured I'd share just in case there are any other hard headed/prideful people like me out there. 😜🚙
